<< B A C K Emigrant Ancestor Homes of SMS Students Mrs. McCann's semester project for the St. Michael's 4th and 5th grade Social Studies classes focused on the students' ancestry and immigration patterns to the United States. Each student interviewed relatives to determine the reason for immigration, gather details of their life in their homeland and describe their journey to America. What follows is a map that shows -- as detailed as possible -- the exact locations of the students' ancestral homes. (HINT: Click on the blue markers and ZOOM -- then switch to the satellite view!) Thanks to all the parents who answered their children's questions for the project. The stories of the St. Michael's "melting pot" were often heart-wrenching, yet they revealed the beautiful blend of cultures at St. Michael's and the common reasons for leaving: poverty, war and hope for a better life in the United States.
