Subject: Principal's December Letter

November 25, 2009

During this time of thanksgiving, I would like to congratulate our 6th grade Volleyball team for placing 1st in the CYO Union County Volleyball Junior Varsity Division. They were also honored with being the season’s undefeated champs.

The First Lego League took first place in the teamwork category at the regional competition, and have been invited to compete in the state competition. At the regionals, five teams made first place in different categories. As one of the five winners the SMS students will go to the state competition for the first time since SMS has participated in the First Lego League.

At the end of October, our 8th graders competed in the Roselle Catholic Scholastic Olympics. Each participant is commended for doing their best. In the following areas our students had a winning placement:

  • 1st Place
    • Daniel Navarro – Science
  • 2nd Place
    • Daniel Apicella – Forensics
    • Brendan Boyle – Current Events
    • Mairead McKeary – Art
  • 3rd Place
    • Eric Christensen – Spelling

The generosity demonstrated during our Thanksgiving Food Drive was exceptional. Several trips were made to Cranford Family Care with all of the food you donated. Whether you sent stuffing, cranberry sauce, yams, or frozen turkeys, your kindness has given many a Thanksgiving meal and the knowledge that we care. The students have mentioned to me that they feel so good for helping others. I thank you again for the overwhelming response to the drive.

The month of December will bring with it a flurry of activities and events: the Secret Santa Sale, Breakfast with Santa, the Christmas Concert and our Early Childhood Christmas show among many others.

The children in grades K-8 will receive their First Trimester Report Cards in mid-December.

Each Monday morning during the season of Advent the students and teachers will assemble for an Advent Wreath Lighting Service.

Thank you for all you do!
