Principal's November Letter

October 29, 2008

Dear Parents,

It is my pleasure to congratulate all of our 8th graders who participated in the annual Roselle Catholic Scholastic Olympics. Each entrant competed to his/her best. Saint Michael School placed second overall in the competition. The following students won their category: 1st Place: Science - Edward Duffy, Current Events - Janine Puhak; 2nd Place: Spelling - Michael Dombrowski, Art - Meghan Glassen, English - Andrew Smedberg; 3rd Place: Religion - Janeclare Mc Cann. All are to be commended not only for their endeavors but also for conducting themselves in an excellent manner while at the competition.

Our Saint Michael School Book Fair is fast approaching and I look forward to seeing many happy shoppers. The Family Event is planned for Sunday, November 23 from 9 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. The school children will be able to shop during their Music and Library periods. During the event, you are invited to help build our classroom libraries by participating in One for Books. Not only will you build our libraries but Scholastic will match your donations and will donate one book for each dollar to Kids in Distressed Situations, The National Center for Family Literacy and Toys for Tots. Check our Book Fair homepage. Volunteers are needed. Please call the office or write a note to Mrs. Singer.

We will be in the month of November in just a few days and by now your child has become accustomed to our school. In the morning all children must enter by the STOP-DROP-GO door. In addition, although it may seem time consuming, waiting on the STOP-DROP-GO line is safer than dropping students in the lot or in front of the school. Cars parking in front of the school are a hazard to those exiting the driveway. Parents should not enter unless they have a scheduled appointment. If an adult enters the building he/she must go to the office to be announced.

It is mandatory due to state regulations that the PK3 and PK4 children receive a dose of the influenza vaccine between 9/1 and 12/31 of each year. Many of you have expressed concern. It is a state mandate and must be adhered to.

The Halloween parade will begin at 10:00 A.M. on Friday. Students will parade through the center of town this year. Please join us!

On Monday, November 3, the students are to begin wearing the winter uniform -- no more shorts and polo shirts until the warmer weather returns.

During this season of Thanksgiving I give thanks for all of you.

Sincerely,

Sandy Miragliotta
Principal
