Scrip is a word that means “substitute money” - in other words, scrip are gift cards or certificates from national and local retailers. They are the same as gift cards/certificates that you buy at the store.
You’re probably asking yourself how these stores help us raise money. It’s simple. Retailers agree to sell gift cards to our organization at a discount. Families like yours buy the cards/certificates for full face value and then redeem them for full face value. The bulk of the discount – from 2% to 15% or more – is retained by our school as revenue.
- The retailer gets cash upfront and repeat business.
- You get a powerful fundraising alternative that involves no selling.
- Our school gets a regular source of revenue.
The reason for the effectiveness of scrip is that you generate revenue through purchases you would make anyway. You earn money for our school without spending a single additional penny. Just spend your regular shopping dollars with scrip at the stores that participate in the program – that includes food, clothing, entertainment, gasoline and even dining out.
The St. Michael School Scrip Program is a simple and effective way to fundraise. Just fill out your order form and return it with your payment to the school in an envelope marked SMS Scrip Program. Orders for ShopRite and Pathmark will be processed on a weekly basis as usual. Orders for all other retailers will be processed on a bi-weekly basis. Depending on order volume, it may be sooner or in some cases where there may not be enough to order we will notify you as long as you provide your phone number on the order form.
Orders will be picked up daily from the office and processed every Monday for delivery by the following Monday.
